Children’s Writing Competition 2019

Chorleywood & Gerrards Cross Bookshops are delighted to announce this year’s writing competition theme is … MYSTERY

Here’s what you need to do …

Key Stage 1 (school years Reception, 1 and 2) applicants must join the dots on the sheet entitled ‘Dot-to-dot Mystery’ and draw what you think the character might have in his hand. If you want you can colour the completed picture in. Click here to download the image!

Key Stage 2 (school years 3-6) applicants must write a short mystery story which includes any three of these things: a battered old suitcase, an acrobat or gymnast, a pair of gloves, an open window, a musician or a candle

11-16 year-olds in approximately 500 words, write a short mystery story. The last sentence must be “It was a complete mystery to me.”

Once you have created your picture or story send your clearly named entry form (download here) to Chorleywood Bookshop (4 New Parade, Chorleywood, Herts WD3 5NJ).

The closing date for entries is Friday 15th March. There will be first and second prize winners in each category and winning entries will be published on our website. First prize is a trophy, £15 bookshop voucher and certificate, and second prize is a £10 bookshop voucher and certificate. We apologise that entries cannot be returned.

Good luck!
