£8We’re thrilled to have joined forces with The Orwell Foundation to bring you an evening in with Douglas Stuart and Madeleine Bunting, where they’ll be discussing the political implications behind their Orwell-Prize longlisted work. They will also be joined by Ciaran Jenkins, a Channel 4 News journalist, who has been listed for his work on care homes in Scotland.
Douglas Stuart is longlisted for The Orwell Prize for Political Fiction 2021 for his book Shuggie Bain, and Madeleine Bunting is listed for the Political Writing prize for her book Labours of Love.
The Orwell Prize longlists feature the finest political writing across non-fiction, fiction and journalism of last year: work that our judging panels believe best fulfils Orwell’s state ambition “to make political writing into an art.”
Throughout the spring of 2021, the Orwell Foundation will be celebrating this writing in several ways, including a series of online events in association with some of the best independent bookshops across the U.K. These will spotlight some of the major themes arising from the longlists. The evening’s topic will be Care and will feature writers from different lists being brought together to discuss their work.
The evening will be chaired by author and campaigner Nicci Gerrard.
