Chiltern Bookshops Events

Events

Join us to hear authors chat about their current publication and share the inspiration behind their books. Come alone or with friends – the atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed, and we generally serve refreshments. These are really sociable occasions: great opportunities to meet like-minded people, as well as to hear how a writer thinks or writes or researches. Listening to someone talk about their work – fiction or non-fiction – brings it to life. If you’ve already read the book, you’ll understand it in a new light; if you’ve still to start, then once you’ve had an author’s insights, the words will spring off the page in a very specific and personal way.

The talk generally lasts around an hour, including questions from the audience. Afterwards, there’s usually the chance to meet the writer and ask them to sign a copy of their book.

* Postponed * The Last Giants : The Rise and Fall of the African Elephant 🐘

The Reach Free School, Long Lane, WD3 8AB

The Last Giants : The Rise and Fall of the African Elephant by Levison Wood - Wednesday April 1st - 7pm - Reach Free School.

This book comes at a critical time. Fifty years ago, Africa was home to just over 1.3 million elephants, but by 1990 the number had halved. Meanwhile in the span of a lifetime, the human population has more than doubled.

In Levison's "The Last Giants", he explores the rapid decline of one of the world's favourite animals. Filled with stories from his own time spent travelling with elephants in Africa, the book is a passionate wake-up call for this endangered species we take for granted. The Last Giants was written to inspire us all to act - to learn more and help save the species from extinction. We look forward to welcoming Levison to the Reach Free School.
